It's Raining, It's Pouring

We know a blog about Chicago weather wouldn’t exactly the most riveting site of all time ("It’s cold. Still cold. Cold again today. Rain." repeat), but this month is the 17th-wettest May in Chicago history! Good god damn, my soaked compadres.
Flooding in Gurnee; Photo: Chicago TribuneRussell, Gurnee, Des Plaines, and Riverside are all experiencing flooding, which the Trib documents and a really informative little graphic. More rain is expected throughout the week, and experts say waters won’t crest in some suburbs until Wednesday or Thursday. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross are both on hand, and according to the Sun-Times, the Lake County health department has warned citizens that “flood water can cause disease-causing organisms and instructed people to watch for nausea, diarrhea and muscle aches. Those with open wounds are at especially high risk for tetanus. Dislodged manhole covers can cause whirlpools that can suck children and adults to their death.”
