More Cubs Rooftop Battles

A new rooftop club is getting ready to open across from Wrigley Field at 950 W. Addison, and the Cubs are again threatening to erect a barrier to obscure the view.

This may sound like a familiar battle between the Cubs and the rooftop businesses surrounding the Friendly Confines. Prior to the start of the season, the team squared off with the Skybox on Waveland -- the lone business refusing to sign the 17% profit-sharing agreement. Ultimately, the two sides reached a deal and the Cubs never had to roll out their view-obstructing screen.

The Cubs have again begun to prepare for the installation of screens to obstruct the views from the new rooftop club, even owner Max Waisvisz said he's willing to negotiate a profit-sharing agreement with the Cubs once he gets his rooftop license from the city.

Chicagoist agrees the the Cubs should receive compensation from the rooftop businesses --because without the Cubs the rooftop owners would have no business -- but this seems a little heavy handed. Let the guy get his permits in order, negotiate a profit-sharing deal, and resort to the fence additions only if the two sides can't reach an agreement. Chicagoist wonders how the rooftop in question even has a view of the field anyway...
