DIT-ka Mulls Over Senate Bid

Ditka-Again.jpgIllinois Republicans have begun taking the whole Mike Ditka thing pretty seriously. Although a few other names for the vacant Republican US Senate nominee position have been bandied about, former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka seems to be in the lead for the job.

Monday, Iron Mike told GOP leaders he was interested, and over the past few days Ditka has met with Republican State Chair Judy Baar Topinka, National Republican Senate Committee Chair, Sen. George Allen, and tonight State House Republican leader Tom Cross is supposed to endorse Ditka.

Chicagoist is starting to get a little dizzy.

Although we don't like to wear our political stripes on our sleeves (Chicagoist is a "Fair and Balanced" publication), we have already pointed out that Mike Ditka hasn't done much for Republicans (or voters for that matter) in the past, and he isn't even registered to vote at his home in Chicago. Not a good start for someone running for high office, huh?
