Lay's and Jays: The End?

2004_08_03.chips.jpgWe've been gripped by the Lay's vs. Jays drama from the get-go, and today's latest development is just as juicy as the rest of it. Lay's has apparently settled out of court with Jays, and while the specific terms of the settlement are confidential, "industry sources" told the Trib "Frito-Lay agreed not to run any comparative ads with Jays for two years and to pay Jays' legal fees in the court battle."

Let us recall that a federal judge ordered Frito-Lay to stop using the ads that say Chicagoans prefer Lay's to Jays. Despite that order, WBBM and WCKG, two Chicago radio stations, accidentally aired the spots. Busted.
