Free Drinks at a Toy Store? We Are So There

Chicagoist will be heading over to Rotofugi tonight for the reception for their latest exhibit, “Transfigured Transformers.” Artist Jefrey Lacson is a Chicago native and recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute, and his work deals with some of our favorite toys from ages past, Transformers. If we recall correctly, they're more than meets the eye.

Lacson said in his artist statement, "In the same way that the earliest gods and goddesses were anthropomorphized with animals, 'Transformers' manifest machine and human as a single form….This project attempts to release the mythological potential inherent in these objects." Well, hot damn on that. The pieces on display are large-format prints and constructions, and co-owner Kirby Kerr tells us to “think Transformers turned into religious icons and mandalas.” Well, double hot damn on that. The party will be rocking from 7-11, which is plenty of time to get boozy. Unfortunately, no Paperformers.
