Northwestern Upsets #7 Ohio St.

2004_10_sports_nu_beats_osu.jpgFew things in life are certain but death, taxes and Ohio St. beating Northwestern on the gridiron. Until Saturday night, that is! In front of a national audience on ESPN2, the Wildcats upset the 7th ranked Buckeyes 33-27 in overtime. It was NU's first victory against Ohio St. in 24 meetings -- since 1971, when Chicagoist's dad was a Northwestern senior.

Northwestern held control throughout most of the game, going up 3-0 early on and never relinquished the lead. Ohio St. was forced to staged a late comeback to tie the game and send it into OT. After Ohio St. kicker Mike Nugent missed a potential game-winning field goal, the Wildcats drove down for a touchdown to win the game. The victory even won Northwestern National Team of the Week honors.

Chicagoist recommends that NU students hit the gym, through because those brainy weaklings couldn't bring down the Ryan Field goal posts. We expect them to come down after NU beats Purdue on Oct. 30th!
