Helmut Jahn Lecture Tonight

2004_10_5.jahn.gifHelmut Jahn is speaking at the Art Institute tonight as the guest of the Architecture & Design Society. Yeah, it's a steep $15, you cheap-o bastard, but it's worth it: the guy's a living legend. Jahn's work is all over town—IIT student housing, the United terminal at O'Hare, the Thompson Center, and a handful of other structures were all "archi-neer[ed]" by Jahn. Tofutti break.

Jahn's lecture tonight is titled " Architecture and New Technologies," which Jahn is apparently pretty attached to: there's a section on his firm's site about "digital practice." "The key to our successful application of digital tools is information sharing and communication," a sentiment that's probably true for…everything. Awesome. The Art Institute has the lecture listed as "Built and Unbuilt: An Architect’s Perspective," which is maybe different? Could be the same? Meh, we're hoping for the tech lecture cause we're geeky.

Jahn recently designed Lakeview Supportive Housing, a single-room occupancy structure for affordable and eco-friendly housing near Cabrini-Green. To make reservations for tonight's lecture, call (312) 857-7102.
