Bulls legend Scottie Pippen retired from the NBA today as the rest of the Bulls open training camp. The official announcement came in a press conference this afternoon following the team's workout. So as to not take attention from the rest of the team, Pippen chose not to attend or make his announcement during yesterday's official media day.

2004_10_sports_pippen_retirement.jpgPrior to last season, Pippen signed a two-year, $10.3 million contract to re-join the Bulls. Pippen was only able to play in 23 games due to ailing knees. And of course, Pip refuses to return any of the $5 million guaranteed for this season meaning he's on the books in terms of salary cap and cash flow.

Fortunately for him, greed isn't a factor in Hall of Fame admission. A seven-time All Star during his 17 year career with the Bulls, Rockets, and Blazers he also was a key member of the Bulls' six championships. Bulls management also announced that his #33 will be retired.
