Taipei 101, the new sky skyscraper in Taiwan's capital, has just been certified as the word's tallest building. At 1,700 feet (101 stories), Taipei 101 is more than 180 feet taller than the previous record holder, the Petronas Towers in Malaysia.
The group that gave the award measures from the sidewalk to the skyscraper's architectural top. Although flagpoles and antennas don't count, Taipei 101 does have the world's highest structural top, tallest roof, and highest occupied floor. Until Taipei 101 was topped out this year, the Sears Tower held title to the world's highest roof and highest occupied floor. Not only that but Taipei 101's antenna is longer than the Sears Tower's. Taipei 101 has also bumped the Sears Tower down to a #3 ranking for the title of World's Tallest Building. Bastards!
Many people think that the new skyscraper will make the world notice Taiwan more but set to open in 2 months, the occupancy rate of Taipei 101 is still less than 60%.
