McDonalds Adds Deli Sandwiches

McDonalds Deli Sandwich - Photo: detnews.comMcDonalds has started selling deli sandwiches in select US and Canadian locations in an attempt to take business away from Subway. Subway, the biggest US restaurant chain, has about 4,700 more locations than McDonalds. And , who knew?, but deli sandwiches are the fastest-growing US fast-food segment.

While Chicagoist is mildly interested in seeing and tasting the new McDonalds menu items, what we're really excited about is that that uber-nerd Jared Fogle will have to SHUT HIS YAPPER about McDonalds being so bad for you and Subway being so healthy. Man, we cannot stand those commercials and cannot resist talking back to the TV when they come on ("Shut up Jared!").. or even better: Mute.

Also, McDonalds just reported a 42% increase in profits for the third quarter. The profit increase is due to longer US restaurant hours, higher-priced new menu items, the "I'm lovin' it" ad campaign, and accepting payment from customers via credit and debit cards. But the main reason for the jump is simply because people are spending more. With premium salads at about $5 each, the price of the average check has gone up.. a few years ago there wasn't really anything on the menu that was more than $2-3. Bastards! They're supposed to not only be a fast hangover cure, but also CHEAP.

Ok. Back to Jared. Subway's site has a really lame-o Jared & Friends section of their site (really, who cares what his weight loss buddies look like!?), but what we're more interested in are the Jared hater sites like Subway's Jared Ate My Balls, Up Yours Jared, Jared Fogle Sucks, etc.

Jared rocks. I don't know what you are talking about. Those commercials being run by Subway against McD's are great.

Maybe the next skirmish in the War of the Crappy Tasting Deli Sandwiches could be a cage match duel btw/ Jared and Mayor McCheese. I'd relish that.

Oh, and "Subway's Jared Ate My Balls" is a hilarious name for a Web site.

alls i gotta say is, "They got a pepper bar"! Quizno's rocks the toasty subs.

McDonald's sucks... Subway sucks... Quizno's sucks almost as bad. You live in CHICAGO, for god's sakes, there are probably 10,000 independently-owned, mom-and-pop sandwich and burger joints in your own neighborhood that are just as cheap as the mega-chains and *much* tastier. Find one and patronize it, already. Geez. Nice "independent" voice, here.

Next we'll probably be treated to an item about how much you love Chipotle and Best Buy... (eyes roll).

i dont think i was really advocating that you eat at mcdonalds or subway or any of the chains. i'd much rather eat at a non-chain restaurant any day.

I'd eat at Sam's Deli on Broadway or Perry's on Franklin downtown every time I required a sandwich if the laws of time and space permitted. But working around Belmont/Western/Lincoln does not afford me such delicacies. Although there is Su Van's around Lincoln and Paulina but I'd go broke eating there everyday.

I live within walking distance of half a dozen very good Mexi places (and at least a dozen bad ones), but I still *love* Chipotle because it's so different than what I can get at the other places. The chicken is greaseless, they got that mackin' corn-based salsa, the rice isn't tomato sauced...mmmm mmmm good.

I tried Oven Selects about three months ago when they were test-marketed in Rockford. They're not bad. But like all fast food (mom & pop, international franchise or otherwise), they are to be conusmed responsibly. But what wasn't mentioned in the post is the fact that McDonald's has also seen same-store sales skyrocket, which suggests that however "uncool" it may be to admit, people are going to McDonald's more frequently now than they were over the past two years. And spending more on new menu items. What really sucks is that people don't take responsibility for their own behavior and blame corporations for individual indiscretions and impulsive indulgences. No one is forcing those fries down your throats, people.

BTW, Norm, McDonald's is (like it or not) a global icon and number one in its industry, and calls Chicago home (though now technically headquartered in Oakbrook). Seems appropriate that Chicagoist covers matters that relate to Chicago, no?

For well-nigh 20 years I've lamented/longed for Burger King's "Veal Parmer," and I think for awhile McD's was doing a "Chicken Parmer."

if youd like to die young and in long couple of tortourous years...go for it...enjoys your mcdonalds!!! and personaly i dont like jared...but subway kicks mcds ass anytime!!! BOOYAH!!

WHY CANT PEOPLE JUST EAT HEALTHY AT HOME AND GO OUT TO A NICE >>NOT FAST FOOD

why do u guys eat mc it is bed

i Just eat Jerred on a Wheat Bread and drink his puke ..

I am a Chicagoan who moved to North Carolina a few years ago. I always went to independent resturants and sandwhich shops. Oh, how I miss them. Down here it is mostly nation wide resturant chains which leave a lot to be desired. I especially miss Tasty Dog in Oak Park my preievious neck of the woods.

wow jared fogle is a big fat loser.I really hate him!he sucks big time.I will go to subway maybe tomorow or so but this guy is a loser.
