Paczki Time

2005_02_paczki.jpgChicagoist loves doughnuts, so when Ann Sather restaurant -- home of another breakfast favorite, cinnamon rolls -- sent out the word that on Tuesday, February 8, they would be serving paczki, at their Lakeview location we made plans to make like Homer Simpson and put in our order.

The Mardi Gras delicacy, as explained by Ann Sather's, is pronounced "punch-key," and are decadent, cream-filled doughnuts that are part of the traditional Polish celebration of the last day before Lent.

The Lakeview location at 929 W. Belmont will be
selling paczki for $1.50 each, six for $7.50 or 12 for $12 beginning at 7 a.m. until supplies run out. The paczki flavors include strawberry, poppyseed, cheese, custard and rose.

Pre-orders are recommended, and for each dozen pre-ordered, Ann Sather will donate $1 to charity. Customers may call (773) 348-2378 to reserve their order.

Edited to add: A reader's food forum lists a fantastic thread on optional places to find paczki. Check it out! Thanks, Ed!
