Battle of the Bamboo

2005_02_bamboo.jpgLooking for something different to do this weekend? On Saturday, the Filipinos in Alliance at UIC presents the Battle of the Bamboo, a competitive showcase of Philippine cultural dances performed by university students. A trophy will be awarded to the winning group and they'll be judged by a panel of professional choreographers and artists in the Chicago Filipino community.

Last year was the inaugural Battle of the Bamboo and Loyola University emerged as the champion. They'll be defending their title this year against students from Purdue, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Northern Illinois University.

The Battle of the Bamboo was a huge success last year and all are welcome to join in this year and experience a piece of Filipino heritage through folkdance. The show starts at 7pm in the Student Center East Illinois Room of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Admission is free.
