The Oscars, Where to Watch'em

Chicagoist plans to spend Oscar night at a house party where our friend has promised "tons of movie-themed food". He better deliver on that shit because we're dying to know what this movie-themed food could be. House parties are where it's at, in our opinion, but if you're more of a socialite and would like to go to some Oscar parties around town, we've picked 3 that we think sound cool for Sunday night -

This is the only party in Chicago that is actually sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The event takes place at the Gene Siskel Film Center and begins with a walk down the red carpet, where guests are greeted by Joan Rivers impersonator Ellie Weingardt (creepy!). Admission is steep, at $100 general, and $175 VIP, but all proceeds benefit the film center and the Chicago Academy for the Arts scholarship fund. But how can you beat watching the awards show on a movie screen? The ceremony will also be shown on big-screen TVs in the center's cafe, where you'll drink up on champagne, wine, beer, and get to eat some great food.

This is the party hosted by the Chicago International Film Festival and metromix/RedEye. The party's at Park West and is hosted by LeeAnn Trotter of "metromix: the tv show". The ceremony will be aired on 4 giant screens and 24 monitors. It'll cost ya $30 - $50 to get in but then you'll get appetizers, beer and wine all night long. Proceeds benefit the Chicago International Film Festival.

This is the party for all the fans of best picture nominee "Sideways" (that's US!!!). Star Bar will be serving Napa Valley vintage wines to drink while watching the awards ceremony. Tickets are $20 and include finger foods, wine and cheese. There's also a pick-the-winner contest (see tips here) with the chance to win champagne, glassware and gift certificates.
