Canady Le Chocolatier

People in this city can be passionate about their chocolates. Between Fannie May, Brach's, Frango, and Margie's everyone has his or her favorite and any dissenting opinions are just not recognized as valid alternatives. We were raised in a Brach's household and to this day the sight of candy corn hurts our teeth to no end.

Chicagoist is here to tell you you're all wrong! Nestled in a small storefront on South Wabash, Canady Le Chocolatier has been treating confectioning as art- and giving us a sweet tooth fix- since 2004.

2005_06_canady5edited.jpgOwner/proprietor Michael Canady studied the art of making chocolates and gelato under Swiss and Belgian master confectioners while working as an academic advisor, engineer and businessman in Europe and the Middle East. His inviting storefront has a glass-enclosed kitchen which allows customers to view Canady and his assistants crafting chocolates, gelato cakes, mousses, and truffles- the orange zest flavor is a personal favorite. And with summer on our heels Canady Le Chocolatier has a wide selection of gelatos and sorbets for your tasting pleasure.

Canady places painstaking detail in his confections (just look at the tuxedo design on those chocolate covered strawberries). A dozen box of chocolates can be yours for twelve dollars, packed in a handmade Japanese paper box. Best of all, Canady himself always has time for a kind word, greeting, or description of his sweets for customers.

Canday Le Chocolatier is located at 824 S. Wabash in the Soouth Loop. The store is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m.- 9 p.m. and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekends. The phone number is (312) 212-1270.
