George W. Bush, MVP, White House T-Ball

2005_06_george_bush_tball.jpgJust kidding, they didn't even keep score at the game that was played over the weekend on the White House lawn. But we bet it was adorable to watch a couple dozen little kids from Chicago and Jersey play T-ball (or is it tee-ball?) on the south lawn. Every player got to bat and run bases and at the end George Dub presented them each with a signed commemorative ball. The kids and their families also got a tour of the White House before the game and individual photos with the president. Not too shabby.

The President threw out the first pitch, but since this is .. uh.. T-ball, he pretty much just put the ball on the tee and yelled out, "Play Ball!" The "game" only lasted 1 inning and set the Jackie Robinson South Ward Little League Black Yankees of Newark against the South Side Little League Memphis Red Sox from Chicago. The teams are named after Negro League teams of the early 1900s and are part of the Little League Urban Initiative. Huge props to the Cubs and the White Sox who 2005_06_george_bush_tball2.jpghelped the South Side Little Leaguers make the trip by helping pay for transportation costs.

This is the 5th year White House T-ball that Dubs launched to promote interest in baseball and foster a "spirit of teamwork and service." That's cool, but if these kids are lacking as much swinging talent as Chicagoist, they're in for a HUGE surprise next year when that tee goes away. That was when Chicagoist's baseball career ended!

Yet another of Bush's shameless photo-ops with minority kids. This happens every time his poll numbers go down in a Rovian effort to portray him as "compassionate" while thousands are dying as a result of his lies and neighborhoods like many on the South Side where these little leaguers hail from are suffering from years of disinvestment in transportation, housing and jobs that Bush has done nothing to address.

Thanks, Chicagoist, for passing on White House propaganda.

AS A PARENT OF ONE OF THE CHILDREN THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE GAME IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ALL. AS I DO NOT SUPPORT ALL OF THE PRESIDENTS POLICIES BUT HE IS STILL THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND DESERVES RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR FINDING THE TIME TO ATTEND THE EVENT. AS FAR AS A PHOTO OP, SO BE IT.
