I've read all these posts and to tell you the truth... banter like this, about baseball, makes me proud to live in Chicago. I'd like to say that as a die hard Sox fan, we should just be talking about the Sox like asdf said. Cubs who? I nominate asdf as Sox fan of the week!

go go white sox...and whoever plays the, nah, i'll stop there, i'm no cubs hater. last night wasn't pretty, buerhle got roughed up big in his 6th inning, proving that yes, the sox are sometimes beat up REAL bad. we might have the best record in baseball, but we can always aim higher. i hope we do get burnett, although it sounds like he personally doesn't want to play in chicago, although he does admire ozzie back from his days down in FL. so, that doesn't bode well for his "rental" status, should we even get him for the remainder of the season. but, now boston may be in a pickle with clement going down hard last night (youch!). we shall see...

This thread is the perfect example of the problem with my fellow white sox fans. We have the chance to talk about our own team, and all they can do is talk about the cubs. This is why the media seems biased towards the cubs - Cubs fans do nothing but talk about the cubs, and white sox fans do nothing but talk about how much the cubs suck. Stop feeling second-rate and we won't have a second-rate team anymore! See, you even got me not talking about the team.

And what purpose were the players, coaches, trainers and front-office brought in for? To trim the ivy? Baker's made some boners but he's not the only problem with the Cubs and likely not even the primary one. Oh man, I know I've got a bad habit of playing devil's advocate when I start defending Dusty Baker.

I will agree with SA on the dusty issue. Reminder, Dusty was brought to chicago for one sole purpose, to win the world series.

I've never believed that Dusty was a great or as horrible as he's been made out to be at times. He does seem to be very slow to react to changes in personnel. And I just don't get why he keeps moving Rusch out of the rotation when he continues to pitch well from there... let the youngsters pitch from the bullpen.

Good for you (seriously)...unfortunately the same can't be said for most. At any rate, I don't think I've ever heard a fan of any team not complain about their manager's handling of the bullpen. Or pinch-hitters for that matter.

As a bit of a Cubs hater it's just funny to watch the same people who wore "In Dusty We Trusty" shirts in '03 act like he's the beginning and end of the Cubs' problems now. This team was based on a fragile premise to begin with...is anyone surprised in the slightest that the rotation's been ravaged with injuries? That a team counting on Ohman and Wuertz has issues? I mean, without D. Lee having a superhuman season, who knows where they would be. As is, it's amazing they're in a position to take the Wild Card. While it may not be because of Baker's management, it's also hard to believe it's in spite of it .

Speaking as a Sox fan since 1989 (the year I knew it was itrue about the cubs being cursed and also the year I turned 14 and had a clue about baseball) Nothing would satisfy me more than the cubs pulling there act together and winning the NLCS. And if you have to ask me why don't bother it is obvious.

We can blame him or his complete mismanagement of the bullpen, his inane decisions with the rotation, and his inability to nurture young talent. Oh, and his crappy lineups. And the teams lack of baseball fundamentals. And his inability to reign his players in last year. And... And to the sports haters, remember...this is Chicago. It's a sports town. I go to the theater, and eat out, and love rock shows. So don't get all prissy and pretend that not liking sports makes you more urbane than me.

Wood had injury issues well before Dusty Baker arrived (threw more innings the year prior to Baker's arrival, too)....can't blame everything on the ole toothpick enthusiast.

i'm a little less optimistic about wood. his stuff hasn't had the electricity that it did back in the late nineties. but in my opinion it was either this or trying to trade him away. kerry's days as a cubs starter are over. now if we just had a manager who knew his head from his ass we could really get things rolling.

Best move the cubs have made this year is to put kerry in the bullpen, hes got great stuff but since Dusty threw his arm out in '03 has not been able to put in the innings. Remember what the A's did with Eckersley after the cubs traded him.
