Katrina Is Just Plain Rude

By Sam Bakken in News on Sep 1, 2005 10:14AM

9_2005_hurricane.jpgWhen invited to a barbeque at a friend's house, during "tea" at the end of the night the gracious guest might fill the bowl to thank their host for the splendid evening. But as we all know, that bitch Katrina is no gracious guest. The Gulf Coast invited her over for burgers, and she filled their bowl with water (dude! party foul) that killed at the least one hundred people and will cost billions of dollars to clean up.

Yesterday G-Dubs seemed to say that Nawlins will be rebuilt in the same spot. The Boston Globe published a story (registration may be required so bugmenot it) today saying the task will be greater than anything before seen in our Nation's History. In his column today, Zorny says New Orleans should be rebuilt elsewhere. You can let him know whether you agree by voting in his poll. Not that it matters what you, we or he thinks. As MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning Chair Lawrence Vale put it in the Globe article:

"Human inhabitation of cities is a very stubborn thing. There is a level of inertia and investment, on the one hand, and emotional attachment on the other that makes it next to impossible to imagine a city choosing to relocate, even when it is demonstrably located in a disproportionately vulnerable location."
