Wabash Ave. Now Open

Wabash Avenue north of Wacker and the Wabash Avenue bridge over the Chicago River are now open again, as of last Friday. The section of the street next to the Trump Tower project was closed while crews ripped down the Sun-Times Building and rebuilt the viaduct.

The roadwork included street resurfacing, new sidewalks, ornamental streetlights, landscaped medians, and a new traffic signal on the north side of the bridge. Total cost? $8 mil.

Keep in mind, if you're thinking about driving on the new street: Southbound lanes are all set, but northbound lanes will be limited to one lane until late 2007 becuase of the Trump Tower construction.
