This Week In Stupid

2005_11_ham_sandwich.jpgThis week we have a heartless gas station clerk, a creative robber, a creepy store manger, five really slow teenagers, and one unlucky gun owner. A little quiet, but what do you expect with all the tryptophan abuse?

  • On Sunday, a gas station clerk at a Gary, IN, Citgo refused to call 911 after a woman was robbed at knifepoint while pumping gas. "Use your cell phone," the clerk told the woman.

  • On Monday, a man robbed a Humboldt Park bar with a ham sandwich.

  • On Thursday, three women filed suit against Pacific Sunwear claiming management didn't notify police after they discovered that their manager at a Gurnee Mills store was videotaping them in the restroom. They are seeking more than $50,000 in damages.

  • On Saturday night, two women on their way to a wedding reception at Garfield Park Observatory were robbed by five armed teenagers. Police were already on the scene for security, and caught the robbers and recovered their weapons within two minutes of the incident.

  • And yesterday, a 63-year old Rockford man accidentally shot himself in the foot with his .22. As if that weren't embarrassing enough, police cited him for not carrying a firearm owners ID card.

On Monday, a man robbed a Humboldt Park bar with a ham sandwich.

He "rolled" him???

Add to this that group of idiots who played follow the leader in the train track game in Elmwood Park ... don't tell me ALL of these drivers were part of the Ryan License scam!!!

He he,
I've been to that bar, I wonder how much he was expecting to get.

re elmwood park.
I heard on the radio that after clearing the track they've been observing cars doing the exact same thing today at the crash site.

Yep, and one of the drivers is saying they shouldn't be held responsible for what happened, because when they stopped on the tracks, the gates weren't down. Apparently that means that a train is never going to come, either. Derr.

Those people were *definitely* part of This Week In Stupid.

As my insurance friend enlightened me today:

625 ILCS 5/11‑1201

"(d-5)No person may drive any vehicle through a railroad crossing if there is insufficient space to drive completely through the crossing without stopping.(e)It is unlawful to violate any part of this Section. A first conviction of a person for a violation of any part of this Section shall result in a mandatory fine of $250..."

So, therefore, not only should these idiots be thankful that they're a) still alive and b) not being sued by the the state of IL for damages rendered to the light rail carrier (although I'm sure a lawsuit is in the works as we speak), they should also be thankful that they weren't all handed traffic tickets at the scene.
