And, I've been to New Year's in Atlanta. I've watched the peach drop at Underground, and I have no idea why it would top New York.

This is some bullshit. While there are some lovely, lovely people in Phoenix (and I just got back from visiting some of them), there is no reason why anyone should go to Phoenix for New Year's Eve. Except...there is a local guy named Jerry Riopelle who played sold-out NYE concerts every year from 1975-1990. This year is his farewell concert and apparently people come from far and wide to see this guy. So maybe that's why all the hotels are so booked up.
