I don't recall the story implying this was an elitist "wine" club; what difference does it make what they may or may not be drinking? If like-minded individuals want to get together and discuss politics over a beer, or a jack & coke, or even a glass of wine, who cares?! I think they've purposely chosen bars because they're PUBLIC places that lend themselves to lively and open discussion, and for better or for worse, alcohol often and conveniently fuels that type of discussion...

Nothing like elists sipping wine while talking about how they are "for the people." We've got a bunch of junior John Kerry's here. Of course, when a bunch of actual elitists drink wine at their country club, this same blog is used to denounce that sort of activity as wrong, and proof of how the GOP is ruining the country.

When will libs learn that the Republicans, for 20-30 years, have been organizing like nuts on a grassroots level, and that is one big reason for their success. Fuck the bar. Where did you get the idea that I supported the administration? ...cause I don't. I -do- think that the Red Lion is an odd choice to meet, considering the somewhat backwards opinions of its owner (seriously, engage him in discussion sometime. For extra fun, ask for a Budweiser.). I also think that such a group is liable to attract the insufferable, "nobody gets it but us" types. Still, though, it doesn't get any more immature than "I'll definitely be at the next meeting to laugh at the whiny liberals."

Maybe somebody should start a group called "Snorting Conservatively" so Steven and Jack will have a forum at which to laud the fantastic job the Bush-Cheney administration is doing, rather than worrying about those whose opinions differ from their own...
