Thome Continues to Sit, Sox Continue to Slump

It certainly pains Chicagoist to see the White Sox suffer 4 losses in their last 5 games, but we tend to agree with Sox skipper Ozzie Guillen on his decision to keep slugger Jim Thome out of the lineup through the weekend. After being scratched from Friday's lineup for a pulled groin, Guillen initially said that Thome would return to the lineup on Saturday. But he sat Saturday and Sunday, as Guillen chose to rest the AL's leading home run hitter.

2006_04_sports_thome.jpgThome is now expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday, as the Sox open a series against AL Central-leading Detroit. The Sox certainly need his bat back in the lineup. Detroit comes into the series with a 2 1/2 game lead over the White Sox, adding a game to their lead over the past 10 game despite going only 4-6 during that span. While Chicagoist believes the Tigers will fade back into the pack, we'd rather see them do so sooner rather than later. And the Sox winning this week's series would be a nice start.
