After all the drama last night, the morning commute is not looking good. We recommend looking for alternate routes, if possible. Even though the Blue line will be running, it will be at reduced levels and we're sure that it will be busy and there will be a lot of waiting. Maybe we're being pessamistic, but that's just us. We're also assuming the #56 bus will be crammed. Another alternate route is to take a Pink Line/Ashland bus combo. Here are the Blue Line details from the CTA site:
This morning Blue Line trains will be operating at 10 minute intervals from O'Hare to Grand, making all stops. Every other train will operate from O'Hare to Clark/Lake, allowing customers to make bus and rail connections. Announcements will be made on each train saying where it's going. There will be bus shuttle service in both directions.
Blue Line trains on the Forest Park branch will operate in both directions between Forest Park and Jackson at 10 minute intervals. Blue Line trains on the 54th/Cermak branch will uperate as scheduled every 30 minutes btw 54th/Cermak and Jackson.
Update: 6:40am - WGN is saying that everything will be back to normal within the next half hour. Still waiting for CTA confirmation.
Update: 6:49am - CTA now announcing that service has resumed in the Blue Line subway. Everyone is still advised to allow extra travel time as service is restored. The bus shuttle between Grand & Harrison will continue to operate til about 7:30am. Also heard that Metra is still honoring CTA passes.

Weekend Diversion: Night Of The Ponies

Blue line service has returned to normal operation.
Bike commuters could care less...
the red line was unusually light in passengers today. i thought that was sort of lame. what are the chances it's going to happen again? and it's the red line, not the blue. whatevs. i get a seat every day anyway up in the bryn mawr neighborhood.
Under 14 hours. Impressive.
or half-assed repairs. i think this is more likely.
but yeah, kudos to the lemmings for not boarding the blue line today. i got a seat at the division stop heading into downtown circa 8ish. normally i'm fighting my way into a sardine can.
maybe we should have fire/derailment/evacuations more often.
For once, I agree with Tony. :) Investigating this and getting the line back up and running that quickly is pretty impressive.
I hate to be a total ass, but you spelled 'pessimistic' wrong.
