La Fontanella is the restaurant that Royko wrote about, but wouldn't name as the best Italian restaurant in Chicago. People went nuts for weeks trying to figure it out.

I second Bruna's -- my favorite Italian restaurant in the city, hands down. (Thanks, EatChicago!) I'll have to give La Fontanella a try.

This place is one of the best kept secrets in Chicago. Another place on that street that is super is Bruna's. For "old school" Italian food, it can't be beat. I always take out-of-towners to eat at one of these places, and they always go back when they are in town.
