Bands at a festival do not need an intro
This is not Woodstock.
And Thax as a replacement is the worst idea I have ever heard. Remember when he was at every damn show in the city a few years back - well let’s keep it like that - a memory.
CSS was easily the best “rock” show of the weekend maybe it was too hot and smokey – hmmmm sounds a lot like a rock show. Not too bad for a band I overheard described as “sorta electro-clashy”
Oh man do you kids crack me up.

I got a shot of the big old spot on Ted's head after he slammed the microphone stand...he's usually pretty frenetic, and that was case in point.

However, I was blown away by The Futureheads, and I mean that literally. Standing only about 60 feet from the stage, dead center, I felt that music in my lymph system. Jesus, they were good, and loud!

Highlights of day two...early The National set was awesome...way better than I expected given their time slot. Tapes 'N Tapes sounded exactly like their album, but a little thinner, which isn't bad. Yo La Tengo...more like Yo La Boring...and I like their albums, but didn't do it for me. Misson of Burma..eh.

Mr. Lif and Aesop Rock...fucking amazing....great set, absolutely perfectly balanced between their two song lists...and Aesop Rock, once they turned his mic up, was phenemonal. Plus, Mr. Lif walking around selling his CD's afterwards? Great, chatted with him and bought a copy of the new CD, signed by him.

Spoon...outrageously good, given how much bad mouthing I had heard of them before. Plus, they played Paper Tiger...the best track on "Kill the Moonlight".

Finally, Os Mutantes...holy fuck did they rock. And people really did hang around for them and seemed to really get into them.

The less said about Devendra Banhart, the better.

My favorite ironic t-shirts of the weekend:

"I have the biggest dick in the band"
"Guns don't kill people. People with mustaches kill people."

I saw Ted on Sunday, had a pretty good scab forming. That was my favorite part of the weekend, a little violence with the old microphone. Saturday, Band of Horses great, also loved Ted, Art Brut and Futureheads. Other good stuff as well.

Band of Horses was phenomenal. The dreamy pop fit in perfectly with the summer outdoor venue.

Also, did anyone else play four-square? Wow, what a throwback. I felt 12 all over again.
