Regarding YLT, most of the people who I heard from who didn't like it are actually fans of them, at least on record. I heard several complaints about them not playing this or that song or about being boring by people who are fans. I'm not really familiar with them so it worked for me (though that first or second song jammed a little too long) because there was nothing particular I wanted to hear. Based on their performance, I plan to see them when they return in October.

I saw more smoking hot hipster girls on Sat and Sun than I have ever seen in my entire life. In tight shirts. And snug jeans. And Chuck Taylors/Pumas/Vans/Asics/Sauconys. And tattoos. This alone was worth the price of admission.

Oh, and the music was pretty good too.

but I think they could have structured a set list that was more friendly to people who weren't, like me, die-hard fans...and featured the songs they have that have choruses. I liked it, but about half the audience didn't.

Kudos to them for not dumbing it down for the pitchfork crowd.

I'm merely pointing out that it's disingenous to not let a few kids pass out flyers when the sponsors are contributing to the trash problem on a wider scale. Especially since Tim made a point of talking about building a community together.

And I'm praising the Biz 3 stage above (not to mention the fest as a whole) so I'm not sure what #2's complaint is there.

There was very little to complain about. If you feel that most of it sucked, stop going to these festivals. They don't get much better. Great talent, very well run. Awesome time! And I met a lot of cool people too.

Harsh. A) In response to Zed, I think 312 and Summertime are great hot weather beers. Sorry it wasn't PBR in cans. B) More free water WOULD HAVE been nice. C) I don't know why anyone cared about the flyer thing... D)I love Yo La Tengo and their noodly stuff...but I think they could have structured a set list that was more friendly to people who weren't, like me, die-hard fans...and featured the songs they have that have choruses. I liked it, but about half the audience didn't. E) Mission of Burma ruled. I don't think I'm arguing with anyone on that point, but it needed to be stated.

#2...dude, did you forget to eat your box macaroni and cheese today and take your meds?
China does't allow pamphlets to be handed out at events either. Have you even left this country? didn't think so!

this review sucks my ass. shallow, lame, lazy and also WRONG on most of your stupid complaints. (1) lif and aesop rock were not booked in response to anything - they were booked months ahead but ANNOUNCED last due to their previous commitments. (2) the water complaint is bogus - don't like the line for free water, then buy some ... they cost ONE WHOLE DOLLAR at any food stand. (3) as they said a million times, the flyering prohibition came from the CITY not the pitchfork people. i imagine if you want to do things with the city in the city's park, you probably have to follow the city's rules. don't you think? (4) did you even see one thing on the biz 3 stage? didn't think so. in fact it's obvious. conclusion: you suck.

If it wasn't for Art Brut and Futureheads, the Saturday show would have been a dud. Maybe it was the heat, but I was a bit annoyed with the flyer passing out thing too. More people needed to drink beer, (too bad it was that local chicago beer made on an island. nothing like a thick rich beer to not quench a summer thirst. yuck.) because the crowd was very insular and clicky. much easier to meet people in a gay bar than this scenester crowd. but hey, we're there for the bands, yea?
