Old Maxwell was a rotten rat-infested shithole that only deserved landmark status in the gangster hall of fame.

Read the chapters on "Bloody Maxwell" in Gem of the Prairie if you think it was ever anything but that. You could also read "Barney Ross" if you want to know what kids coming out of that neighborhood had to overcome.

The new Maxwell Street, aka University Village, is a thousand times better and a thousand times more useful to the city and to the world than that rotten stinking slum ever was.

Admit it, Chuckie-wuckie: YOU are just disappointed that YOU can't go down on Sunday to see the "ghetto knee-grow" in his natural habitat like you were fucking going to Brookfield Zoo you useless piece of shit.

I hope you choke to death on your next Taco, you fucking white pig asshole.

Used to live right around the corner and surely miss it. I don't know the name of the taco stand that was under the railroad tracks closer to 16th st. but the tacos were the bomb. I also miss getting misc. household supplies for dirt cheap.

Maxwell Street is constantly changing, as vendors come and go, but any exploration of the market will be dramatically enriched if you have in hand David Hammond's terrific Maxwell Street Market Guide. Links to the web, Word, and pdf versions here http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=10407#10407

Updates (longing for the good old days of 2005, of course) are here http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=9305

But hubcaps do make nice plates for camping trips. What surprised me, as I haven't been to the market in at least a couple years, was the volume of merchandise. That, and $1200 down could get you that new central air unit for your home.
