Chicagoist: Move Along, There's Nothing To See Here

gee..why did people leave town? so angry, everyone. i love the city. i love the hustle and bustle. hell, i occasionally love being on one of those crazy rush hour el rides where everyone is all crammed in there and you're all up in everyone's business. it's not the crowds (although michigan ave does have its own special flair for irritating me). it's the fact that our infrastructure doesn't seem to be able to handle the current citizenry at times (public trans in particular). that, and the numbers seem to have borne out that past cities have been left in debt -- which is left on the shoulders of the taxpayer. the olympic committee bears no responsibility. i just caution against being prideful/egotistical and wanting something here for the glory of it, but not really considering all of the ramifications/practicalities of it.

I lived in Atlanta during the '96 Olympics and the traffic was better those two weeks than anytime before or since because people left town.

oh my god, move back to your rural southwestern wisconsin already. there used to be one less car, one less person in the train, and one less whiner on this web site before you came along. oh wait, but you love chicago. except it's crowded. yeah, big cities are weird like that. hilarious.

Chicagoist, if you think a place needs to get its house in order before inviting guests over, then why are you advocating that California get the Olympics bid? It doesn't take more than a passing knowledge of current events to know that the state is in a severe fiscal crunch. Chicago looks spectacular compared to California.

Chicagoist wears it's second (third) city insecurity on it's sleeve, and yet when presented with an opportunity for global exposure, the best you can do is complain. Right. It sure would suck to be inconvenienced for TWO WEEKS in return for a global stage to showcase Chicago as a beautiful world class city. Thankfully there's people with some vision in charge. Go back to the suburbs, kids.

Yes I heard that they came to town and Mayor Daley was showing the commitee around and they will make a decision but the decision is not based on one factor but many .. one example would be housing for the teams and various countires and the environment and neighborhood and all .. it will be soo awesome if they select us !!

Great, almost all of your reasons were personal and selfish in nature. Use some logic and reasoning instead of just going off on a bunch of tangents with links and thinking that makes a sound argument against the Olympics.
