2006_08_lilyallen_uffie.JPGLily Allen is coming to Double Door on October 16!

Who, you say?

Why only this season’s most buzzed about champion thrust forth by the bloggerati! That’s who! Only the author of the best summer album of this year ... that won’t see any sort of release in the states until, erm, this winter. Only Keith Allen’s progeny!

Okay, we’ll forgive you if you have no idea who we’re talking about. Suffice to say she’s a hip-popster out of the UK that has – as usual – taken the whole world, sans this continent, by storm. This, however, does work in our favor in situations such as this. Whilst she’s playing huge venues in Europe, we get to see her in the cozy confines of Wicker Park’s own Double Door. Not only do we then get nice and close to a genuine pop diva beloved the world over (ecxept for here); we also get a chance to actually judge her music on the merits of her live performance instead of as a soundtrack to a litany of music videos.

Personally, we dig her. She’s not stretching any boundaries, but if you’re going to get down and listen to some sunny pop with a dark twist, she’s awesome.

Of course we don’t think she’s quite as cool as Uffie (who is appearing at Funky Buddha on August 28, getcher tickets now!) but she’s definitely ahead in the race towards climbing the throne vacated by last year’s über-hip popster Annie.

Tickets for Lily Allen go on sale this Saturday and we recommend you pick ‘em up at the Double door box office and avoid service charges. We assume tickets for Uffie are available now, but have no idea how to pre-buy them since no one is answering the phone at Funky Buddha right now...
