The village of Lincolnwood has filed complaints against the ultra-sexy Purple Hotel on Lincoln and Touhy. The complaint cites "dangerous and hazardous conditions" at the hotel, including 53 separate violations like missing fire extinguishers, mold, rat droppings, food on the floors in the bar and restaurant, and "flying insect infestation."
You'd never know it from their surprisingly slick website though, which boasts, "We invented guys night out." We find that hard to believe, but the complaints seem to be spot-on according to some other online reviews. "The Street Was Cleaner," says one, along with "avoid at all costs" and "Run, do not walk away from this hotel." Sounds like the place to be. We've always been curious about this place from the few times we've passed it. Has anyone else stayed there? Is it really that gross?

Reminds me of last night's "The Office".
"What are these stains?"
"Either blood, urine, or semen."
"I hope it's urine."
Back in the day, when Hyatt owned it (and it was commonly referred to as the "Purple Hyatt"), it wasn't gross at all and many a function was had in their banquet rooms (my own Bar Mitzvah actually).
This place was also a mainstay for New Years Eve parties that would get a little out of control sometimes (or so I've heard *wink*).
It's also famous as the host to the great Chicago Mob hit of Allen Dorfman in it's parking lot in 1983.
Once Hyatt sold it I think it's been downhill ever since.
I guess we can look forward to it's future tear-down and condo re-development.
The sad part is that it was once the Hyatt Lincolnwood and a top-notch hotel.
Doesn't it host some S & M convention every year?
Walk inside and you can tell that it was really nice 30+ years ago.
"Doesn't it host some S & M convention every year?"
LOL, wow, I forgot hearing about that last year. I'm not sure how many times that's happened there but at least since 2004 it's been host to Leather SINS Midwest Holiday Fetish Fair & Marketplace (kinda - NSFW)
wtf, it's not mentioned as one of the hooker motels...it can't be that bad.
"We invented guys night out"
If that's what a night out is like, how horrible are their living quarters?
Nothing says "guys' night out" like pretty, pretty flowers.
This is the hotel owned by the husband of the Jenny Guzon currently on Survivor: Cook Islands.
The Purple Hotel is also the current home of the Reactor anime, manga, and American comics convention. I was there last year, and while the hotel seemed old, it did not strike me as particularly dangerous. Other complaints I heard about had more to do with hotel staff issues than anything else.
