The Purple Hotel is also the current home of the Reactor anime, manga, and American comics convention. I was there last year, and while the hotel seemed old, it did not strike me as particularly dangerous. Other complaints I heard about had more to do with hotel staff issues than anything else.

The sad part is that it was once the Hyatt Lincolnwood and a top-notch hotel.

Back in the day, when Hyatt owned it (and it was commonly referred to as the "Purple Hyatt"), it wasn't gross at all and many a function was had in their banquet rooms (my own Bar Mitzvah actually). This place was also a mainstay for New Years Eve parties that would get a little out of control sometimes (or so I've heard *wink*). It's also famous as the host to the great Chicago Mob hit of Allen Dorfman in it's parking lot in 1983. Once Hyatt sold it I think it's been downhill ever since. I guess we can look forward to it's future tear-down and condo re-development.
