Runaway Bus the Real McCoy

chicagoist_200610_runaway.jpgOne of the first things our drivers' ed teacher told us was that if we ever had to park on a hill, we had to turn the wheels so that the car wouldn't roll away if the brakes gave out. We used to think this was just the kind of paranoid tales that cranky old guys wearing short-sleeved dress shirts with ties like to tell to scare kids, but now we've seen it happen.

A CTA bus started rolling down a hill near 69th and State today after the driver had parked it outside a terminal to take a break. It struck a car and pushed it into two others before coming to a stop. Luckily, no one was hurt. A CTA spokeswoman told the Sun-Times that they would cover the repairs, "if the investigation concludes that it's our fault -- which a bus rolling into the street seems like it would be." And who says accountability is a thing of the past?
