"Hey, what's that on the white board in the background. Ah ha, its the blueprints for Big Table."

Actually, looks more like Ben is teaching the others how to play bluegrass. ;)

Hey, what's that on the white board in the background. Ah ha, its the blueprints for Big Table. Now we all can be cool!

Jokes aside, Google Chicago did sponsor a http://Chipy.org meeting. That made me way happy. Thay even let me talk. It was fun.

Regarding working in the tech industry in Chicago, I think it is much nicer in some ways. We are one big happy family of techie nerds. On the flip side, you meet other people who are not working in tech... unlike California. Chicago is a cool town with tons of stuff going on, always.

Nice interview. Thanks!

...there wasn't a chance in hell that I was moving out of Chicago, so forget about it. I'd have to find a new house, a new wife, and that's a lot of work.
that's hilarious! btw, that was a great read. i'd no idea they actually had an engineering team here - only knew abotu the sales offices. thanks chicagoist for the interview and thanks also goes out to the engineers for being both hilarious and knowing what the good stuff's about. i do data visualization and it's rare to find a sense of humor amongst developers - 'least funny ones.

I'm a software engineer by trade, and I used to live in the Silicon Valley. I second the it's-more-livable and I'd-rather-raise-my-kid-here sentiments.
