Get a Piece of Santa Action

Santa's Village in East Dundee may be closed now, but you can buy a piece of jolly old memorabilia, just in time for the holidays. The amusement park closed this summer after 46 years, when its owners couldn't pay the rent and taxes. Now they are selling off pieces of the village, including all 23 rides.

Imagine the fun, your own Christmas-themed amusement park ride! Show up all your neighbors this year by setting up an entire gingerbread house in your backyard. Of course, this also raises the chances of having a very uncomfortable conversation with your kids:

chicagoist_200610_santa.jpg"Daddy, why doesn't Santa need his house anymore?"

"It's called foreclosure, Honey."

"What's four-clothes-sure?"

"Well, Santa was a deadbeat and couldn't pay his rent, so the bank took away his house ... No, no, no, stop crying. I didn't mean it. Santa's not homeless. He can stay with the elves, he'll be okay. Honey? Lookie here! A giant candy cane!"

I can't believe they are going to auction off those rides. Someone should monitor their destination and count the amount of times someone gets hurt on them. They were in bad shape when I was a kid, and they've rotted under the Dundee sun since last year, untouched. Now they will end up in the hands of some carnies who will use Pomade to grease the joints.
I thank you Chicagoist for making this announcement, as I will no longer take myself, or my child on a carnival ride again (not that I trusted them in the first place, but what you don't know can't hurt you).
