I'm remembering a story I read as a little kid about a woman who was a long distance swimmer and swam across one of the Great Lakes (Huron or Ontario maybe). At a certain point in the narrative, she describes having a lamprey try to affix itself to her stomach. EEWWWW! She was able to bonk it off right away, but the thought/image haunted me for the rest of my childhood and made me uneasy most every time I swam in the tiny lamprey-free lake on which I grew up (until I saw Jaws of course, and then I had a much larger nonexistent danger to creep out upon). Anyway, that ooky memory had been buried deep in the recesses of my brain, until now of course! Thanks so much. I'll be thinking of you at 3am when my kitty tries to snuggle up to me and causes me to awake screaming.
