Chicago in the Year 2010

chicagoist_200611_postcard.jpg

Ever walk by the slowly-but-surely growing Trump Tower construction site or read about the proposed Fordham Spire and wonder what it's all going to look like when it's finished? We still can't offer any photographic evidence, but a user named STR at the Skyscraper City forums has posted a bunch of Sim City-esque models of what Chicago should look like in 2010 including the new high-profile skyscraper projects. If the models hold true, the Fordham Spire will have much more of an impact on the skyline than The Donald's giant new phallus, both because of its unique design and location. The Spire will tower directly over the lakefront in River East, nearly on its own, while the Trump Tower will be nestled among many more big buildings downstream.

One glaring omission from the year 2010 though is the flying cars. Where are the flying cars? We were promised flying cars!

Where's the double sized Blue Cross Blue Shield building!!!

user-pic

To answer Sean's question... it burned down during a fire in 2008. The ironic thing was that the building was not insured and Blue Cross filed bankruptcy after 1000s of suits against them leaving hundereds of thousands of people across the nation without any type of heathcare.

i distinctly remember chicagoist posting this several months ago..

I'm not sure what NSH is talking about, but I do know he has no idea what Sean is talking about.

Sean is talking about the Lohan designed Blue Cross and Blue Sheild building on East Randolph Street next door to the Aon Center, which was designed to double in height if the company should decide to expand.

To answer his question... who knows ! Guess you'd have to email the person in charge of doing the renderings.

By 2010 the CTA will no doubt be defunct.

HEY! I know what I'm talking about, yes that is the building I am refering to.
Nostradumas called this one, not me

The incendiary trapped in his own fire,
Of fire from the sky at Carcassonne and the Comminges:
Foix, Auch, Mazères, the high old man escaped,
Through those of Hesse and Thuringia, and some Saxons

Jon, I remember the same thing. In fact, Future Chicago is on my co-worker's desktop.

Well, Jon, aren't you just more intelligent then the rest of the city. I didn't see this when it originally posted so I am glad it was (allegedly) re-posted.
Oh, and the reason we don't have flying cars is because all it takes is one drunk idiot on hsi way home from the Hangge Uppe to crash into a building and the flying cars will be grounded.

A note about flying cars, they are all equiped with a special force field so they will never hit another flying car or any buildings etc. When you are ready to park, you simply turn off the force field and lower yourself into a space on the ground, or attach your car to the side of building and climb in through a window or outside deck. Saw them at the last auto show, I'm looking for the rollout in a few years!

Dammit, that's the second dupe I've posted in a week. My only defense is that the first one happened before I came to Chicagoist, and this one was when I went on hiatus this summer. Stupid digg links. Someone needs to learn how to use the search box.
