I used to work @ the ritz years ago and can confirm oprah lives upstairs in water tower condos, not lake point. i never saw oprah, but saw her man stedman wandering around the hotel a number of times..

Generally I make it a rule not to respond those that cowards that post regularly but switch/hide anonymously behind cloaks like "Downtrodden". to take pure pot shots at their betters (wink) But you are welcome "The Downtrodden" now do me a favor as I'm feeling all "superior" as you put it. Its clear that you fear me or you wouldn't need to hide anonymously behind "Downtrodden" to take pot shots at Ye Ole Spook. so why don't you just call me God? Add me to the "thought she lived in Lake Point Tower" list. I was told that long ago when I was in college and have thought so ever since. Did she always live in Water Tower or did she move there sometime in the 90s? As for touring her place on "Cribs" - no, she'll have Nate Berkus decorate the new digs and devote an episode of her show to it.

We've been having a tough time for the last several thousand years, but finally someone has had the courage to actually go on blogs and moan about our plight! Thank you, oh great hero! Your words do absolutely nothing to fill our bellies or improve our situation in any way, but we are pleased that you can take time out from your drinking to make these empty gestures which serve no purpose other than to make you feel superior and work through your personal issues. Free at last!!! Perhaps you could organize a candlelight vigil as well?

Hey Chrisy I'm not annoyed big guy, just expressing my views thats all. Course next time you might wanna try a more honest approach and say your writing about Oprah because its just where your interest rest. Its not like your alone, you and C.C are in the majority. :-) That way you don't have to pull stuff out of thin air, like saying that the disparity between rich and poor has been "covered to death" so its time to make a little room for Oprah when infact the opposite is true. Then when I asked you where its been covered( besides the New York Times) you don't have to speciously try to one up me by posting a Google search link. Did you learn that method in grad school? And you don't need my cash to pay your bills to investigate the Man, I'm sure your doing quite well cold lamping at your River North lodgings and at Northwestern grad school. I hear they don't take the Link card. But please give my regards to the the man at Christmas dinner who is probably making River North and Northwestern possible as well as the leisure time to write about Oprah And hey fernLaplant, yea Oprah earns ever penny just like a make minimum wage. Course I refrain from making minimum wage jokes out of respect for the millions of American stuck in those jobs. Maybe you should pick up the book Nickel and Dimed, but I forgot plants don't read

Spook's point is at least valid- while we're all gibbering about Big O's new digs, people in her income bracket (remind me, FernLaPlante, about all the long hours and strenuous activities Oprah does to earn more than 99.9999% of the rest of the world) make life ever more impossible for the rest of us. Whether its Chicagoist's job to raise the issue, however, is up to Chicagoist. Blogger.com accounts are free, Spook. But then, so are Chicagoist comments, I guess.

I too also thought Oprah lived at the curvy tower near the Navy Pier. I point that building out every time my friends from out of town come. Oops... I guess I have a new building to point out. Oh yeah, I think if this Spook is the same Spook that posts on Gapersblock, don't take him that seiously...he tries to rile things up now and then with politically charged comments. Thanks Chris for posting this. I actually think this is interesting. Spook, this is a blog - it's not supposed to be the NYT.

Hey Chrisy! While I have disagreed with numerous chicagoist folks on the content of their writing , I have never questioned their intellectual grasp on reality. You are the first, not that it matters to your River North smugness. Yea dude you're totally right! The income gap has been totally "beaten to death", completly over covered in the media, all those in-depth articles in Peoples, the Tribune, The Chicagoist, the Suntimes and the Red Eye, and of course all the major evening news shows have covered it, Yea right! what planet do you live on? In other words, its not discussed nearly enough( mostly ignored) because Oraph, etc, is far more interesting to the general populace, not the other way around. I would say get a clue, but it would be wasted :-)

No offense, because I love Chicagoist, but if you thought Oprah lived in the Lake Point Tower that's a little scary. It has been common knowledge for years that she lived in the Water Tower Place.
