I would think that doing these kinds of things is part and parcel of doing onther, actual environmental things to your home. Does using paper plates save enegery in water heating and treatment, or just clog the landfills? THe bottom line is that a big part of preserving the earth involves changing your lifestyle, not just using paper over plastic in the supermarket.

Wouldn't one's environmental impulses be better spent insulating an attic or changing a common behavior than spending a lot of energy reducing the environmental impact of something one does every three years?

Does four coats of low VOC latex really better than one coat of high VOC acrylic?
