I've been to a few NLL games, and they're actually really fun. Fighting is allowed (as it was in the old NHL), game play violence is higher than any other sport, high scoring, cheap tickets, and all the players are normal dudes (most are blue collar candians). And unlike the prima donnas of the major sports, these guys typically go to the local pub after the game to throw some back w/ the fans. And just a guess, but I think the "rox" in shamrox is related to "lax", a common abb. for lacrosse. Regardless, I agree its an unfortunate name.

Maybe the "ROX" thing is because in lacrosse the players fight over hard little balls that are sometimes called "rocks" because that was what the Indians used when they invented the game. Not sure what to do with the "SHAM" part, or the inventive spelling. But I gotta say, picking on professional lacrosse players? You guys are like the high school bully finding soft targets for cheap shots - who's next, stamp collectors and role-playing gamers? I mean, if we're looking for dorky losers we can laugh at, well, you guys are running a BLOG for Chrissake...

As an avid fan of the sport i think we should stick to helping the sport (and the shamrox) with our support instead of throwing a four year old charge in the mix. And like you said, not sure if there was even a conviction. show some class. Uhh, I'm NOT and "avid fan of the sport"--so don't use your "we" around me. I don't give a damn either way about the Shamrox [sic]--although I do agree with "afhad" that the gimmick spelling is moronic. I love how I'm the one who is supposed to "show some class" when Heffer was arrested for drug trafficking! You must be a mole from the Shamrox [sic] marketing department. If you are, the team should come clean about Heffner's background.

looks like a cool team so far....seems to me that they know what they are doing (from the website and other stuff). i am going to give it a shot and check out a game.

The uniforms make these guys look like walking Gatorade bottles. Why do new or expansion teams feel the need to make their uniforms so tacky. Isn't apparel sales part of the business model for this team?? It would be nice to see uniforms become less busy, like Penn State's uniforms. They are simple and primarily have not changed for years because to this day they are still cool...

Looks like a fun sport to play, I would have to imagine that you would have to be a player to actually want to see the games in person.

my lacrosse-playing coworker estimates between 10-15k/yr for the crappy players to around 30k for the top dogs.

Of course they're not their girlfriends, I just wondered if they would think about hitting on them. Or maybe it's like the NFL where they're not allowed to. And awesome find, Flerno! The Chicago Shamroxxxxxxx (the extra "x's" are for EXTREME!) are the Trailblazers/Bengals of the NLL! Count me in!

However, they do play indoor lacrosse for a living (that's worth what? 19-25K a year? I don't know how much they make, but one of the guys in the picture--defenseman Zach Heffner--was arrested three years back when he was a player at the University of Virginia for narcotics trafficing according to the Richmond, VA Cavalier Daily: http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArticle.asp?ID=17134&pid=1056 I am not sure if he was ever convicted, but that might be a way to supplement their paltry paycheck!

I'm having a tough internal debate. Those guys seem good looking enough, and since they play lacrosse (which has all the running of soccer) they're probably in fantastic shape, so it would stand to reason they could pull down MUCH prettier girls than these. However, they do play indoor lacrosse for a living (that's worth what? 19-25K a year? I have no idea what a lacrosse player is worth on the open market) in Hoffman Estates, so maybe these ARE the top of the line for them. And bear in mind, I'm talking long term girlfriend. I'm sure they could get good looking women short term, but no lacrosse player is pulling Eva Longoria or anything.

I've seen lacrosse on TV a few times, and it's interesting enough as sports go, but the subtleties of the rules escape me. I mean, it seems to be OK to whup someone upside the head with your stick, but only in certain areas or only so hard? Or is it how big of a backswing you take before thunking somebody's coconut?

As a dancer, not *that kind* of dancer, but a professional one ... I just wonder how these ladies plan to do anything but walk around very carefully in this getup. Ok, what the hell IS IT with the gimmick spelling of shamrocks? Shamrox? WTF? While lacrosse is neither Irish nor connotates, "rock," I can understand naming a team, "Shamrocks" due to the Irish heritage of Chicago. But why the ROX? It sounds like a bad heavy metal band! Then again, they ARE playing in Schaumburg, so maybe its appropriate.
