I am sorry to see Hans go, but I much prefer the glögg that is served at Simon's tavern down the street from Hopleaf, as it tastes the closest to the version that my grandfather cooked up every year. I am convinced that glögg has magical properties as everyone in my family lives well into their 90s and is rarely, if ever, sick. (The Lindskoog family version can be found on my blog on December 10th, if you want another version)

Well, I'm of Swedish descent. My grandmother was born there. Just died this year at the age of 91. I never saw her drink anything alcoholic, though. Ah, well. I'll drink some glogg tonight in her honor anyway.

If I were Swedish, I'd be proud of the 100% literacy rate. Thanks for the heads up, Mike. I was turned on to that stuff last Christmas and whenever it gets cold out I start jonesing for it again.

My dad and my older brother made a batch this year that kicks all sorts of ass. Glogg is the biggest reason I'm proud to be Swedish.

Simon's has Glogg. Hopleaf could stock the Glunz Glogg being sold at the liquor store on the corner of Clark/Foster. It's pretty good but not as pungent and sinus-clearing as Hans' was.

Dammit! Since no one wants to hang with me on my birthday (it sucks being born around the holidays) I was thinking "I should trek on out to Andersonville to visit my favorite bar in Chicago". And now I find they won't have glogg? Merde...
