Lacrosse always struck me as an elitist East Coast prep school sport. Sure it's rough and tumble and requires you to be in great shape, but I've never heard of it to be a huge deal outside of the northeast. Just look at this MLL: 60% of the teams are in the Boston-Washington corridor. And the indoor league has 5 out of 12 in the Northeast.

Maybe here in the midwest we need to look into a freestyle wrestling or cornhole league. THOSE will draw in the crowds...

All that I will say is "Good Luck". I'm not sure this city is ready for two teams, let alone one!

NSH, I think they just ran out of birds. When they named the "Atlanta Thrashers", people were mad because a thrasher is a small, meek songbird that happens to be the state bird of Georgia. Hardly an imposing name for a sport as rough as hockey.

But I agree, singular names are the worst. We should embrace our sinister past and just go with "The Gangsters" or "The Chicago Typewriters" as an allusion to the tommy gun.

I hope their uniforms are better than the ones in that ShamroxxxXx!! post.

And I do think it's hilarious they name themselves after something so negative in this town. Like when they named the "Miami Heat".

Chicago Machine? Is that some nod to Daley's administration?

There's also the National Lacrosse League team in Hoffman Estates, Chicago Shamrox.

Boy, we gonna get our lacrosse on now!
