Anon/nmpkm,

There's a long, long history in the arts of artists having patrons, be they royalty, wealthy merchants or rich relatives. Ain't nothing new. Having said that, there's also a long history in indie film of mortaging your house, selling your car and running up credit cards in order to get a film made. In either case, the point is getting the film made by whatever means necessary. There's nothing dishonorable about it (as long as it's a good film).

Dude, this is the dirty secret about most artists anymore. They're mostly trustafarians.

No disrespect intended for hardworking University of Chicago students or indie filmmakers, but I've heard lots of complaints about this production; they got their rich parents to fund a film they wanted to make. How is that rewriting the rules of independent filmmaking? Step 1. Have rich parents. Step 2. Exploit them. Great. Really an inspirational story.
