Chicagoist Weekend Blotter

Let's wrap up the weekend and get our snack & drink on for that Bears game!

illinois amber alert

  • An Amber Alert was put out Saturday for four children from Elkhart, Indiana. Their father, 30-year-old Jerry D. White, abducted them and their mother, Kimberly Walker, who is White's ex-girlfriend. Authorities believe White may be headed for Chicago; he used to live here and still has relatives here. Two cars connected to the kidnapped have been found, but with no trace of the suspect or victims.
  • Three muggers robbed the son of Chicago Police Supt. Philip Cline on Thursday night. Timothy Cline, himself an employee of a federal drug trafficking task force, was relieved of his cell phone and some cash at around 9:30 p.m. on a westbound Blue Line train. The three suspects, two men and a woman, were arrested Friday morning and the cell phone recovered. A police spokesperson said the robbers didn't even know the man's status, nor his father's.
  • A drag race went horribly wrong on the South Side Sunday morning. At around 3:35 a.m., Sherrond Worlds and an unidentified passenger were racing another car on 87th Street when Worlds lost control and plowed through a tree, a fence, and finally a garage, where the car burst into flames. Worlds exited the vehicle but the 30-year-old passenger wasn't so lucky, burning to death inside the car.
  • Lastly, a man from Crown Point, Indiana, attacked his wife and a teenage relative with a ceremonial sword. Rodney Bloom used a 3-foot machete-like sword to cut his wife on the legs, hands and back during an argument. A 14-year-old relative was injured on the hands after trying to help the wife. A call placed to the residence turned up a woman who asked never to be called again. Fine, be that way. We're just loving CBS's little graphic ourselves. We can see the newsroom now: "All right, people, we finally have a sword attack! Go with it!!"
