The thing I always liked about the Chicago Diner was that it wasn't only some steamed veggies over pasta...

Ah yes, we can't even read a review about a veggie restaurant without someone trying to pull the "get off your high horse" mantra! Its just a review of a veggie restaurant. Its not a vegetarian manifesto. No high horse here--except for yours.

Anyway, the Diner's reuben is my favorite too. I also find the Diner to be very overrated and totally underserving of all of the "Best of..." awards it wins. Their desserts are also hit or miss for me. I've always been warned away from their cheesecakes, so I've never actually tried one though.

Well, Upton Sinclair, not everyone goes veg because they care about animals. Mass consumption of fats and animal proteins gave me some health problems and I've learned to eat a lot more tofu and soy products because of it.

That said, you can't go wrong with Earwax on Milwaukee. It's literally under my apartment, spicy fries are awesome, and their jerked seitan or vegan rueben is great.

This place is a fucking joke.Honestly, has anyone ever eaten a vegetarian meal and were truly satisfied? Why would anyone want to come here for a faux burger!?! This is Chicago, for crissakes. We love our cow! Hey vegans,do yourself a favor:get off your high horse, learn to love red meat and then treat yourself to Weiner Circle down the street. Now THAT'S a place that cooks up a good cheeseburger!

I've eaten there a few times (and honestly not by my choice) and I've never felt satisfied. First of all I hate the idea of veggies and such (tofu) masquerading as "meatballs" or "burgers" Just tell me it's non-meat and I'll deal with it, don't try to pretend it's something it's not. I appreciate the whole not eating meat thing but you're really not giving me much option here. Most of everything I've ever had at vegetarian restaurants has been bland, boring and worse, unimaginative (ooooh, steamed veggies over pasta, YEAH!)

I have to say that the Chicago Diner is my favorite restaurant anywhere in the city. Have you tried the nachos? THe fajitas? And OMG, the raw cheesecake? It's amazing. I'm not a vegetarian but I don't eat a lot of meat-- if I could eat at the Diner every day I'd have no problem going veg.

Took a couple of guests there in December and the food was so greasy we slid all the way back to the car. One of the guests was vegan and heard about it in Norway. She said it was dreadful, too. We had a much better experience at BITE.
