It's hilarious how you guys rip on the S-T and the Trib when if they didn't exist you guys would have NO site. Almost all of your information comes from their Web sites. Nice rip-off journalism.

Mike has it right. They forfeited the option of playing a night game, not forfeiting the game itself. The Police are taking the place (maybe) of DMB.

And man, that's reason enough for me to shell out lots of money to see them. Which I will.

The Cubs are on the road from starting July 2nd, then there's the All-Star Break. They don't have a home game again until July 13th...the purposely schedule whatever concert during a road trip and probably before the all-star break so there was plenty of time to repair any field damage. They're not holding a concert the night after a day game. the cubs prefer night game, the neighborhood doesn't. the neighborhood also doesn't like concerts so in exchange for allowing the concerts the Cubs agree to play 29 night games instead of 30.

It says right in the ST article that the Cubs would forfeit the game. That being said there are night games on both nights with Washington and Pittsburgh. I assume they could probably be rescheduled for earlier in the day.

Ears...I don't know if I'm misreading what you said, but there's no way the Police would play Wrigley during a Cubs homestand. The DMB show was scheduled for a time when the Cubs were on the road. Plus, the Cubs only have night games on the weekdays, why would there be weekday concerts at wrigley unless it was a holiday?

James: Great point. In fact, I stopped buying the Sunday Trib after I realized at least half the front page was a rip off of something the NYT did a week or two before. The other half usually was feature crap--the Trib trying to do narrative writing, for instance, but doing it in that usual clumsly Trib way.

Remember when Chicago was once a decent town for journalism?

If that is the case, the sky is the limit on what I would pay to see a show and rent a bar for the post celebration. O My Jim.

Make that two "two-day stand." I've heard from a reliable source that the potential dates take place on days when the Cubs have evening games, meaning it will be cool to see The Police, but that it will suck to see them in the daytime.

That 1995 show WAS unbelievable, and I was lucky enough to catch the two Milwaukee shows that summer too. My point is that was twelve years ago, and my legs, and joints, and wbbly knees are twelve years older now!

If this turns out to be false, the Police MUST play Lolla this summer. Especially if they headline Bonnaroo, which is the other major rumor out there...

Wait a couple weeks - once the story runs in the new york times, then maybe the trib will pick it up, put eight reporters on it and turn it into a 2,000 word front page piece. i exaggerate, but not completely.
