A Tale of Two Touchers

funny-pictures-children-are-good-to-eat-lki.jpgIs it just us, or is it still exceptionally creepy when you hear that a teacher was having sexual relations with an underage student? Better yet, isn't it still exceptionally creepy when you see the picture of the teacher that was having sex with the underage student? Well, we've got two more in the Chicago area to add on our road to desensitization.

Teaching assistant Francine Cordova wasn't just having sex with an underage student, she was sharing love letters, a checking account and a bed with him. Cordova was arrested after police followed the 17-year-old student to her house where they found heaps of totally awkward evidence, including papers that showed she assumed the kid's name for their joint checking account. The former Round Lake School District employee was charged with criminal sexual assault and is being held in the Lake County Jail.

Another man was sentenced to 32 years this week for having sex with two students. We found it oddly enthralling that the judge referred to his crime as a "secret life," though we realize he wasn't out saving people from burning buildings in his spare time. No, the former Hinsdale Central High basketball coach duped his friends, colleagues and family while having sex with a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old. The creep-out, named Robert Mueller, continued to have sexual relationships with both students. Friends called him a "wonderful teacher and a wonderful guy." We call both him and Cordova sickos.

I hate to say it, especially with something sick like this, but the lack of the word "alleged" anywhere with the Cordova portion of this post could be setting Chicagoist up for some troubles in the future, seeing as how she has only been charged with wrongdoing, not convicted.
Just throwing out a little basic Media Ethics & Law for your Friday.

I guess when I think of "sickos" I think of someone who eats their friend with fava beans, or tells it to put the lotion in the basket or it'll get the hose again. Having an affair with a 16 y old just seems more like a poor decision. Mr. Mueller was my Chemistry teacher in high school, and he was a nice guy and good teacher, for what it's worth. Apparently not worth enough in the judge's eyes.

Poor decision? Um, yeah - most crimes are the results of poor decision making - they are still, however, ILLEGAL things to do.

Children are smaller, mutated versions of real people. They should be exiled back to the womb.

Oh, no, it's okay, I wrote this from the future

Love that bumper sticker!
