Demons Flying High, For Now

The DePaul Blue Demons (20-13) are flying high after defeating Kansas State 70-65 last night in the second round of the NIT tournament. The Blue Demons were led by Wilson Chandler and Sammy Mejia, each netting 18 points en route to the victory.

But the Blue Demons have their work cut out for them as they are being targeted by the number one seeded team in the West Region, the Air Force Falcons. Air Force was expected to make the NCAA Tournament as they were ranked 13th nationally but several late season losses relegated them to the NIT where they were chosen as one of four number one seeds. Air Force defeated Georgia 83-52 to advance to the West Regional finals. The win improved their record to 25-8 on the season.

DePaul travels to Colorado Springs Wednesday night for the West Regional final match-up. The game can be viewed on ESPN2 at 8pm.

A victory over Air Force would send DePaul to a final four match-up against either Clemson or Syracuse. The NIT Bracket can be viewed on CBS Sportsline.

It was an awesome game. Chandler had some real flashes of brilliance and Draelon Burns really kept his cool in crunch time.

While Air Force has been pretty tough at home, they really haven't played any decent teams this year.

DePaul has been pretty streaky, so they may be peaking at a good time.

I think the Demons forwards match up pretty well with Air Force.

If they can keep their heads in the game, the Blue Demons have a real shot.

Kudos to Jerry Wainwright for his efforts the last couple of years. If only the Uni could figure out a way to move their "home" games out of the Allstate Arena hellhole and into the United Center, Chicago could be home to a serious Big East powerhouse in a few years.
