I'm a fan of much of Tarantino's work, but I'm not a fan of the implication made in this post: "...ever since he thought to intersperse snippets of Steven Wright's radio monologues between tunes by the George Baker Selection and Stealer's Wheel." He didn't really think of that; he borrowed it. Remember, Tarantino is not inventing this stuff. He was far from the first to intersperse snippets of dialogue between tunes on the soundtrack. Jack Nicholson did it for the soundtrack to Head in 1968, for example. The Young Frankenstein soundtrack also featured dialogue mixed with music, in 1974. Reservior Dogs came out in 1992. Also remember that many of Tarantino's soundtracks feature music that was already in soundtracks to other, earlier films. Death Proof is no exception. It is possible to appreciate Tarantino's work without suggesting that he invented that which he has only imitated. Let's simply enjoy it for what it is.
