Uh, getting back on topic: M. Henry is the absolute worst. Horrible wait times, incredibly slow (and often snippy) service, and food that never fails to disappoint. It's one of the fancier looking places in the neighborhood though, which is why I suspect it's so popular.

There's a new place at Granville and Broadway that's a little more meat 'n' potatoes, but very, very tasty-- and of course, I've forgotten the name (where Cafe du Monde used to be). Go there instead.

i hardly ever comment on blogs such as this because most other comments are complaint/negatively based.

i will say that i have been to M. Henry at least five times, and i have never had to wait more than fifteen minutes (bearing in mind that i was not going at prime brunch time). i do not find it be "yuppie" as you say, but a cute/quaint place with character. the breakfast sandwhich is superb, and i've regretfully kissed good by the veggie stacked dagwood sandwhich is the most delicious sandwhich in the history of sandwiches. i also recommend trying out their special omelets. they are to die for.

if m. henry is, in fact, too "yuppie" for you, but you are looking for equally as good food, then i suggest trying out kopi travellers cafe a little further south on clark. vegetarian friendly, delicious food of varied kinds, and a cute little shop in the back with wares. the staff is friendly and they have art on the walls from local artists. they are home to some of the most fantastic nachos ever (how ever simple they are).

Yeah! There's nothing worse for a city than high-income homeowners with kids!

Wow Victoria, too bad about the longer than expected wait time. Guess their crystal ball must have been a little off that day! Hate it when that happens, and on a weekend too. Who woulda thunk it?!
I'm glad to hear you're never (ever) going back - less wait time for the rest of us.

I have been to M. Henry's at least 4 times because I live relatively close by and I love their bliss cakes. The pancakes melt in your mouth, but are still puffy. Perfect. The last time I was there, I had to wait, and but it was prime brunch time on a Sat, but the times before when I came during the weekday, I got right in.

In terms of waiting 45 minutes to an hour, I don't do that for any restaurant anyways, and I don't think M. Henry's is necessarily worth the wait, but if you factor in trying to drive to ANOTHER good breakfast place and possibly waiting for a bit there, it's probably smarter to wait, cuz there really isn't any "yuppie" breakfast place nearby.

By the way, I like "yuppie" breakfast places because as much as I am fine with good old fashioned diner food, these establishments usually spice up, experiment with, "gourmetify" (for lack of a better term) typical breakfast standards that make them more interesting and many times more delicious! I most likely wouldn't go to extra lengths to make a key lime Brioche French toast at home, so why not try it at a brunch place? I am a breakfast person, so I intend to hit all these "yuppie" breakfast joints lined up in Wicker Park sometime soon.

I went to M.Henry at the end of march and will never (ever) go back. When we got there, we were told that the wait is about 45 minutes. An hour and fifteen minutes later we were seated. I (along with another person in our party) ordered the crab cakes and, let me tell you, they were not "the best". The portions were big, the service was fast, but the food and the wait - not so good.

Thang Goodness, I agree with you. We have to create a law to close down all yuppie businesses. I am hoping too that Chicago will return to what it was in the 70's when yuppie did not live here. Those were the days. I hope the union get their way and force Walmart to pay their employees higher wages. I know they only have one store but we will force them to create stores in Chicago. It is better to be unemployed than not having a living wage. Down with the yuppie scum!!!!

So when exactly, does one become a bona fide yuppie?

When one gets married and has children?

When one lands a white-collar job downtown?

When one buys his/her first home?

When one buys the right kind of car?

When one moves to a certain neighborhood?

When one turns thirty?

When one starts earning a certain amount of money?

I'm just curious so I can gauge where I'm at, lest I unintentionally offend anyone with my lifestyle...

Thank god. If there is one thing the north side needs it is another yuppie breakfast place. I don't know how I kept my stomach filled beforehand.
