Gotham Returns to Chicago

gotham1.jpg

Our sharp-eyed reader Dave at Fighting the Suburbs caught this last night on the way home: the building at Wacker and Van Buren being decked out as Gotham National Bank. The new Batman film The Dark Knight is filming various scenes in and around town for the next several weeks. We also have reports that they've been looking for extras and stand-ins, so if you think you resemble Christian Bale or Heath Ledger you might want to look into it. And if you really do resemble Christian Bale, then there are some female Chicagoists who'd like to hear from you.

and how!

I prefer me some Ledger. But um, really either one will do.

margaret, you get yours, i get mine, everybody's happy.

What makes you think only female Chicagoists would like to hear from someone resembling Christian Bale?

I look like both Bale and Ledger (in the dark).
*wink wink*

so is christian bale running around the windy city? i'm on the lookout.

I snapped a few pictures this morning (I work at 300 South Riverside, right across the street from the old Post Office (aka Gotham National Bank), and was asked (very nicely) by a PA to please not take pictures.

I'm glad I had my P&S and not my dSLR - I'm sure he would have been a lot less nice if that were the case.

Do they actually still make films in LA?

I would have (very nicely) told that PA to fuck off. We can't take pictures on a public street because Hollywood says so? I'm heading down there with my camera and a crowbar right now.

I think the only reasons I didn't get into an argument with the PA was a) I'd already taken all the pictures I wanted, and b) I work in the building, and didn't think my employer would look too kindly on my getting into a big, public argument in front of the office.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to bring a telephoto lens and take some pictures from a window in our office facing Van Buren. No PA can see me then!

They've also been filming The Express (with Dennis Quaid) around North and Dearborn.

But, I'd take Bale over Quaid any day.

Oh, the things I would do for Christan Bale. Or someone who looked like Christan Bale. *sigh*

the things i would do to Christian Bale...

I would have (very nicely) told that PA to fuck off. We can't take pictures on a public street because Hollywood says so? I'm heading down there with my camera and a crowbar right now.

Seconded.

and of course Chicagoist neglects the cool fact that our own Mayor Daley has s pretty significant roll in the movie, "the Evil Egg!"

so you and Daley are BFF now, spook? awesome.

I would have given the PA a break, he/she was probably some kid trying to live "the Hollywood dream" and would have gotten SCREAMED at for any random reason if someone got away with a camera phone picture of a Batmobile.

The sad thing is, if my girlfriend scored with Christian Bale, my comic book geek brain would go "Ah, snap! I'm sleeping with someone who scored with Bruce Wayne!!!"

All bets are off if it's one of those tennis players she's always drooling over. Those guys are pansies. Capri pants!?!?!

sorry just not that hip, Geek girl

care to enlighhten me as to what BBF stands for?
